About me
Hadi Razzaq is an Assistant Chief Attorney at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, where he leads the Training and Operations Division. In this role, he oversees officewide training, systems, and cross-unit coordination to ensure the office operates efficiently, effectively, and in an integrated manner across its many functions. Hadi began his legal career as a civil litigator before serving as a deputy public defender in Contra Costa and Marin Counties. He joined the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office in 2006 and has worked extensively on the front lines in misdemeanor, felony, and specialty court units. He has tried more than 45 jury trials, including successful outcomes in some of the most challenging life-sentence cases in the office’s history. Hadi previously managed the office’s Advocacy Teams and Pre-Trial Release Units, helping to advance a collaborative, team-based defense model that integrates attorneys, investigators, paralegals, and social workers to provide the highest level of representation. He was also instrumental in conceiving and launching the Adachi Project, the Public Defender’s documentary film and storytelling initiative, which elevates the voices of clients, families, and communities while honoring the legacy of former Public Defender Jeff Adachi as both a lawyer and filmmaker. Hadi earned his B.A. from Emory University and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. He has served as Co-Chair of the Civil Rights Committee of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California, as a board member of the Coalition on Homelessness, and recently represented the office on the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Criminal Justice Task Force.
