About me
Marisa Beckley, LMSW has over a decade of experience in holistic public defense. She began her defense career at the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, where she was the office’s first civil legal advocate, supporting clients with family, immigration, and civil legal needs connected to their criminal cases. She later transitioned to the criminal defense practice, where she focused on in-court advocacy, written mitigation, and supporting clients through their criminal cases. While continuing her frontline work, Marisa earned a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, where she focused on vicarious trauma, burnout, and organizational strategies to support the well-being of workers in emotionally challenging fields. Marisa currently serves as the inaugural Director of Workplace Wellness at The Bronx Defenders, where she leads office-wide initiatives to promote resilience and sustainability in a high-stress, high-impact environment. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Harvard University.
